Emerald Cut Engagement Ring

Times are tough, obviously, and I want to get my girlfriend the best ring I can. She deserves the best I can get her (I wish it could be 10 carats), but I just don’t have the cash and I want to make sure that when it goes on her finger, she owns it. No credit card payments, no layaway… it’s hers.

I was hoping to find a ring that has a 2-carat emerald cut in the middle and two smaller ones on the side.

Am I being unrealistic? I haven’t done this before and could use some help, please. Thank you.

check out james allen.com

I looked up a 2 carat emerald cut, F color VS1, which is very close to perfect, and for the diamond alone without a setting it’s around $20,000.

for $10,000, again just a diamond, no setting you’d be looking at a J, SI1. http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/ring/item_58-2853_design.asp?step=DiamondSearch&cid=58
J in color is on the lowest end, would be very yellow in color, and SI1 would be slightly included(some flaws visible to the naked eye)

So while you could possible get one that big, the quality makes it not worth the money AT ALL!! It will lose value in years to come. You’re much better off going with a 1-1.5 carat in a higher quality and spend less money!http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/ring/item_58-2853_design.asp?step=DiamondSearch&cid=58

edit-seriously, why the thumbs down. If you want to put a piece of sh*t diamond on her finger and flush 10k down the toilet, go right ahead. Just trying to help out a bit.

Engagement Ring Help?

by admin on August 21, 2009

I’ve been looking for a while and saw this one a couple of days ago. I need some help. Is this nice for an engagement ring or should I just do a center stone without all the other diamonds?

http://www.tacori.com/TACORI-SRCH/ENGAGEMENT/2620ECLGP-A-4-1-100-/

Should I go with an Emerald cut, a Princess cut, or an Asscher cut center stone? She doesn’t like round stones.
Would you chose white gold or platinum? Or does it not really matter? She does not wear yellow gold.
What size center stone would look good? I was thinking a 1ct but, would that look too big?

Need some help!
She likes the three cuts that I listed. She told me to pick any one and she would be happy.

No offense buts it’s an engagement ring. I am not going to a discount cheap place. She deserves the best.

its absolutely gorgeous!!

and no i dont think you should go cheaper either, mine was very expensive and i am so appreciative as my fiance also said that it was the most precious piece of jewellery and something i will wear for the rest of my life….

i think a 1ct would be absolutely stunning. Although if you are getting it with the side stones, you can be a bit more flexible with size because it will already look very sparkly, but if its just the centre stone go for the 1ct!

Mine is a 1.2 solitaire and it is the most beautiful elegant ring. I would also go the princess cut, it looks great with that design as well, but it is my favourite cut :)

in regards to it being with or without the diamonds i think that is really a matter of personal preference… i preferred mine with no additional diamonds because i like the solitaire look with a diamond wedding band…. but with the diamonds looks really pretty as well!!! Thats your call :)

I would definately go white gold, platinum is a more expensive metal AND it is a softer metal, which can cause problems long term!

Also, dont forget your 4 Cs (colour being the most important, then clarity). Aim for the highest colour you can (D is the best) because the higher the colour, the more sparkly and full of life the diamond will be (and white obviously).

All the best! Tell us what you end up going for!

I found a very nice ring at Zales.com its a 3 stone emerald cut 1.5ct white gold… Take a look at it and let me know what you think..and I would like to know how much your ring cost..Only to be nosy..I know its not the price of the ring that matters, so you don’t have to say anything about the price…………

Interesting….geography must have something to do with the price of rings. I live outside of NYC and my ring is a 1 carat princess cut solitaire with 48 small diamonds on the sides of the band and setting (hard to explain…)…altogether, the ring is 1.5 carats, almost flawless quality, set in platinum. The only reason I know how much my fiance paid is because we got it insured: he bought it for $6,000, but originally it was almost $7,000.

We just got our wedding bands, and mine is a .5 carat of diamonds in white gold (platinum was too expensive to match my engagement ring) which cost us $500 on sale, so I’m very happy with that!

Good luck and congrats =)

1. Round ruby with side diamonds (not sure of shape yet) set in platinum

2 Emerald cut tsavourite ( same green as emerald just harder) bordered with diamonds in platinum with yellow gold underneath.

3. Cushion cut blue sapphire bordered with diamonds set in platinum.

Feel free to just suggest the color or style if you don’t like those designs.

Darling, if you are a purple diva – why not a purple stone?

If you are tired of Amethyst, try Purple Sapphire – they are very durable.

Find a good local artist and work with them for a lovely custom piece – after all, a Diva shouldn’t wear something anyone else has!!!

(Oh, and congrats.)

The Surprise vs. The Plan

by admin on August 15, 2009

If a surprise proposal is important to you, we suggest making the proposal the surprise. For the engagement ring, you, and she, want to make sure that the style of the ring fits her personal style and is reflective of her taste, so we don't recommend making the engagement ring itself a surprise.

Lab-created stone for my engagement ring?

by admin on August 15, 2009

I have my heart set on an emerald cut Mt. St. Helen’s Emerald (obsidianite created using Mt. St. Helen’s ash) because it’s the color green I prefer and it has local connections. If we buy an engagement ring setting, will any jeweler set the stone for us or are we going to get loads of pressue to buy a diamond?

Also, since the stone is on the 5.5-6 MOHS rating, would it be better to get a platinum setting or is white gold ok?

Any jeweler who tries to pressure you into buying a diamond is not the jeweler who deserves your business.

Jewelers are very accustomed to having customers bring in stones that they want to buy a setting for. In addition to the big name chain stores, be sure you check out some of your local independent jewelers. They very often will have a better selection of settings than a chain store, and may even have artisans available to make a setting that you design.

Your engagement ring should be whatever stone you want in a setting that is special to you. Enjoy your shopping!
