The ring has pink saphires on each side. I was looking at an emerald cut, but it might not fit the style of this ring. Thoughts? I don’t want it to look cheesy…. But it did catch my eye.

Here is the link for a picture of the ring

Just an update. Thank you all for reaching out and taking the time to post a comment. My girlfriend does like pink and often dresses up with something in Pink.

Seems like the majority of postings share my concerns. Will it clash with clothing other than pink, and will it hold up as a timeless piece? I do like the ring, but am on the fence. I might go with the all diamond, but it does resonate with me….. I will keep you posted with what I decide.. Thats the least I can do considering the amount of feedback I’ve received.

Again, Thank you all

I think it is gorgeous. However my only concern is the one you stated, if she is wearing green it might clash strangely. I would look at maybe an all diamond one. And then if you wanted to for her "something new" out of the saying something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. You could get her a nice pink sapphire necklace.

and all of this stuff that we’ve never talked about before. He took me to a jewelry store over the weekend because he said he wanted to figure out what kind of ring I like.

They were all beautiful and I’ve never thought about any of this before. How did you decide between solitaire, fancy shapes, princess cut, etc? It seems like alot of pressure to decide when I’ll have to live with the decision forever!

If you could include links to photos of rings that you like, that would help too since I may not know certain termanology that you refer to. Thanks!

A good jewelry store will inform you. If you are near a Shane Co I would HIGHLY recommend them. They did wonders for us (who were also clueless). The best way to find a ring to to try them on. I tried on several that I thought I liked and once it was on thought "thats ok" then I tried one on that I thought I wouldn’t be crazy about…then the salesperson dropped the diamond onto the setting and my fiance and I both went "ohh, that’s nice!" I’ve been wearing it since November :)

Times are tough, obviously, and I want to get my girlfriend the best ring I can. She deserves the best I can get her (I wish it could be 10 carats), but I just don’t have the cash and I want to make sure that when it goes on her finger, she owns it. No credit card payments, no layaway… it’s hers.

I was hoping to find a ring that has a 2-carat emerald cut in the middle and two smaller ones on the side.

Am I being unrealistic? I haven’t done this before and could use some help, please. Thank you.

check out james allen.com

I looked up a 2 carat emerald cut, F color VS1, which is very close to perfect, and for the diamond alone without a setting it’s around $20,000.

for $10,000, again just a diamond, no setting you’d be looking at a J, SI1. http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/ring/item_58-2853_design.asp?step=DiamondSearch&cid=58
J in color is on the lowest end, would be very yellow in color, and SI1 would be slightly included(some flaws visible to the naked eye)

So while you could possible get one that big, the quality makes it not worth the money AT ALL!! It will lose value in years to come. You’re much better off going with a 1-1.5 carat in a higher quality and spend less money!http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/ring/item_58-2853_design.asp?step=DiamondSearch&cid=58

edit-seriously, why the thumbs down. If you want to put a piece of sh*t diamond on her finger and flush 10k down the toilet, go right ahead. Just trying to help out a bit.

Jewelry has a very long and diverse history going back as far as history takes us. Every culture has embraced the use of jewelry for adornment in some form or other. The history of wearing rings goes back a long time also. We think of great rulers who used their signet rings to imprint a wax seal to put their authority on documents.

Today we love rings as much as they were ever loved. In western cultures they can be worn by male or female of any age, on any finger, thumb or toe. Rings are often made out of precious metals, like gold and sterling silver. Many popular styles of rings are made out of stainless steel or other base metals, wood, bone or shells. Rings speak of love and friendship or are worn just for beauty and fashion.

Rings are decorated by etching, using contrasting metals, plating, adding precious and semi-precious gems, pearls, enamel or oxidized finishes. The list of decoration is as endless as the many shapes and sizes of rings.

The Spinner Rings can be used to annoy everyone around you or be used as way of stress relief for the wearer.

The Class Ring or school graduation ring is often engraved with the year of graduation and a stone of one of the school colors.

Stack Rings are two or more rings designed to fit on the same finger at the same time.

Cocktail Rings are usually large and set with oversized gems, rather showy but elegant.

Rings, especially sterling silver rings, make wonderful gifts because they look wonderful and are not too expensive. The beautiful glow of the silver sets off the sparkle of any gems that may be used to create the ring. The majority of peoples skin tone is more suited to silver or a mixture of silver and gold than it is to plain gold.

Rings are widely used as a symbol of love and marriage. The continuous circular band is said to be symbolic of continuous love and commitment between the partners in the marriage. Some engagement rings and eternity rings feature three main stones symbolizing the past, present and future of the continuing relationship. Most eternity rings have a continuous line of gem stones.

The claddagh ring was first crafted in 1689. Claddagh rings have two hands clasping a heart, symbolizing love, surmounted by a crown, symbolizing loyalty. The ring worn on the right hand with the heart turned outward indicates that your heart is yet unoccupied. Worn on the right hand with the heart turned inward indicates that love is being considered. Worn on the left hand the with the heart turned inward shows everyone that your heart is truly spoken for.

The rich and famous may measure their worth by the size and price of the gems in their rings but the rest of us are content to wear rings for their own beauty and style. We are fortunate these days to be able to take advantage of the man made gems that look stunning yet are very cost effective.

Rings are for wearing, giving, cherishing and enjoying, one can never have too many.

How much money do I get from high alchemizing:
Cut Sapphires
Cut Emeralds
Cut Rubies
Cut Diamonds
THANKS!

Don’t use high alchemy on them. Even the diamonds aren’t worth it. Just sell them. Here’s a rough price list (at least I’ll buy them at this price, username: chinese_whiz)

Cut Sapphires – 300 gp each
Cut Emeralds – 500 gp each
Cut Rubies – 1000 gp each
Cut Diamonds – 4000 gp each
